QT of the day #3 How to Set Your Eyeliner

The number one complaint I always hear about eyeliner is that it never stays put. Halfway throughout the day it either wears off or it manages to find it’s way down your face. I’m going to let you in on a little trick to help your eyeliner stay put!

  • First and foremost the type of eyeliner you use is key. Try using an eyeliner that is either waterproof or long lasting. Waterproof is extremely important if you’re going to tight line your eyes (line the water line) as the product can wear off very easily if it isn’t waterproof.
  • Try to dry off your bottom water line prior to lining it. If you have sensitive eyes you want to be extremely careful doing this. Gently pull down on your bottom lid so that the water line is no longer touching your eyeball; then with either a Q-Tip or a tissue blot your water line to remove any wetness. With your bottom lid still pulled down apply the eyeliner. Let it sit for a few seconds and then simply let go of your lid.
  • Set your eyeliner! Regardless if you’re using a pencil, gel, or liquid eyeliner you should set it with powder. Think about it…you use powder to set your foundation so why wouldn’t it work to set your eyeliner? Grab your fave eyeliner brush and dip it in an eyeshadow that matches the color of your eyeliner. Sweep the eyeshadow over your eyeliner and voila you have just set your eyeliner! Pretty easy beasy if you ask me.

Personally, I love using eyeshadow to set my liner because I can fix any mistakes I may have made during the initial application. I also think the eyeshadow helps to enhance the liner. If you don’t have an eyeshadow that matches your eyeliner you can use the powder you use to set your foundation, but you want to use a very light hand while doing this so that you don’t ruin the intensity of the liner.

I hope you have found this quick tip to be helpful. Please let me know if you have tried this trick and what your thoughts are about it. Also, if you have any other tips for getting your eyeliner to last all day I’d love to hear from you!

Dupe For MAC Fluidline That Will Save You Tons!

Don’t get me wrong, I love MAC cosmetics but at $15 a jar their Fluidline eyeliner doesn’t fit every budget. Even if it does fit in your budget who wouldn’t want to pay practically 75% less for an eyeliner that does the same job, but better?!

I won’t keep you waiting any longer, the eyeliner that I’m talking about is Wet n Wild’s MegaEyes Creme Eyeliner. It retails for around $3.99 and you can find it at your local Walgreens, CVS, Walmart, and Rite Aid stores.

The eyeliner comes in a really fancy pot that reminds me of a jewel (diamonds anyone?) and it also comes with a small angled brush. When I first bought my new eyeliner I was so excited to try it out that I opened it immediately and tried it on my hand as I already had eyeliner on. The eyeliner is an amazing consistency…not too wet and not too dry. I used the little eyeliner brush and dabbed just a bit into the eyeliner and then drew a line on the back of my hand. I was shocked! It seemed as if I had drawn on my hand with a black marker not an eyeliner. The eyeliner dried fairly quickly and when I tell you it didn’t budge…it took some work to get it to come off. Water wouldn’t do the trick, but it came off with ease when I used eye makeup remover.

Why do I love this eyeliner? First and foremost it works! It is very easy to apply and a little goes a long way. The black is a true black which I’m very happy with because to me there’s nothing worse than sheer color when you’re not expecting it. With that said, if you use a little bit at a time you can build the color that you want. Of course the heavier hand you use the bolder the color will be.

The Bottom Line – why spend $15 when you can spend the extra money on something else you love? I love this eyeliner more than the Fluidline because of the price, consistency, and the ease of use. The brush is also very handy to have especially if you’ve never used a cream/gel eyeliner before or if you’re on the go all the time like me!

How to Make Glitter Liner

Forget what you know about glitter, it isn’t for teeny boppers anymore! Glitter has made a comeback, but in a more mature way.

Urban Decay is making some serious cash with their Heavy Metal Glitter Liner selling for $18 per 0.25 oz bottle!

Even if you buy cheaper brands you can still run into the same problem; too much liquid and not enough glitter.

Here are step-by-step instructions in order to make your very own glitter liner!

You will need the following:

  • loose glitter (Make sure it is cosmetic glitter! You can buy these from any beauty store and it’s usually pretty cheap.)

  • Sally Girl Sparkle Effects Gel Adhesive for glitter (it is only 99 cents!)
  • Something to mix the glitter and glue on. You will want a clean/sanitary surface to do this. (I use an artist mixing palette, but you can use whatever you can find laying around the house as long as you clean it well.)

  • An eyeliner brush to apply the gel/glitter liner

How you make your glitter liner is entirely up to you. I recommend making it as you go though. It seems like it could be a pain, but it literally takes no time at all to make and there’s no way to preserve it for a decent length of time.

All you have to do is pour some glitter onto your mixing tray and add the gel adhesive. The amount and consistency is entirely up to you. I prefer to use less glitter and add as I mix; it’s easier to add glitter than to remove it! I also use the end of my brush (part without the hair) to mix the glitter and gel adhesive together.

If there’s any excess glitter liner left after I’ve applied my makeup I simply gather it onto my fingertips and rub it into my hair for some extra sparkle.

My favorite eyeliner pencil

It has been quite some time since I’ve used an actual eyeliner pencil.  After years of wearing them I wrote them off entirely when I discovered MAC’s fluidline.

Here are my reasons for not liking eyeliner pencils:

  • far too expensive for the quality
  • never lasts long
  • ALWAYS runs down my face
  • seems to run out too quickly

Recently, however, I decided I wanted to try another eyeliner pencil…I wanted something remotely cheap because I was sure I wouldn’t like what I bought.  I went with Revlon’s ColorStay eyeliner in black (about $6.97 at CVS).  I chose this because of the name (colorstay) and also because it is waterproof (I’ve never used a waterproof eyeliner before).

I am beyond amazed at how well this eyeliner works!!  It goes on flawlessly…it has sort of a creamy feel to it as well.  You can easily put a little bit on , without worrying if the line is perfect, then spread it out with an eyeliner brush.  This eyeliner does not budge!  I don’t have to worry about it falling down my face after wearing it for an hour (I’ve even slept in it and it stays put!)  Now I just need to find a good makeup remover for waterproof makeup!

This eyeliner works so well and it’s so easy to apply it’s almost beating out MAC’s fluidline!
